# Single vs Multi-Tool Display

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/TK8-kWTNFA0>" fullWidth="false" %}

This powerful tool offers the ability to seamlessly communicate with users in real-time on your websites, sales funnels, and/or inside of your HighLevel account.

This tool is designed to take your customer interaction and engagement to the next level, ensuring you never miss an opportunity to connect with your audience.

{% hint style="info" %}
Currently, only HighLevel Live Chat is available for connection, but in the future, ChatHQ's native live chat will also be an option.
{% endhint %}

***

## Use Cases

* **Real-time Engagement**: Instantly connect with visitors on your website to boost interactions.
* **Lead Generation & Sales**: Enhance your website's conversion rate by engaging visitors with live chat.
* **Customer Support**: Provide immediate support to your customers directly on your website or through your HighLevel account.

***

## Setting Up Advanced Live Chat Tool

[**Click here to learn how to integrate HighLevel with your ChatHQ account**](/integrations/highlevel)
{% endhint %}

4. **Configure assigned message:** Set the message that will be automatically sent to the user after they send a message. This message should inform the user that an agent will connect with them shortly.

6. **Customize feedback section:** Modify the text for the feedback section, including the question and the response message.
7. **Add agent avatar images:** Choose from the default agent avatar images or upload custom images for a personalized touch.

Adding Facebook Messenger to your ChatHQ Engagement Widget™ easily allows potential clients to connect with your business from your website using Facebook Messenger. To set up Facebook Messenger in your ChatHQ Engagement Widget™, you will need to use the [Link Launcher Conversion Tool™](/engagement-widgets/conversion-tools-tm/conversion-tools-library/link-launcher). We will show you how to do this below.

## Setup Link Launcher Tool

Start by adding a Link Launcher tool to your Engagement Widget™

### **Change Title:**

This changes the name of the Link Launcher tool in the initial widget window. We suggest using something like “Facebook Messenger” or “Message us on Facebook”.

***

### Step 4: **Add M.Me URL:**

Type in the URL for Facebook messenger using the m.me URL as shown below, and use your Facebook page name as the end of your URL.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FAal38tdQ8gq2p4UZzsN2%2FXnip2024-02-19_14-18-50.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=9f54a29b-8b43-42b1-9f49-80e56375dd91" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Finding Your Facebook Page Name

Your Facebook business page has a name that serves as its identification. That name is what needs to be added to the URL for this tool to work properly.

To find the exact name of your Facebook business page, simply open your business page and look in the URL bar. The page name will immediately follow Facebook's domain - *<mark style="color:blue;">[www.facebook.com/](http://www.facebook.com/)</mark><mark style="color:blue;">**\[YourBusinessPageName]**</mark>*

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FSBrunvB8egT4O6QKoQno%2FXnip2024-02-19_14-13-32.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=46ab49b3-5989-422a-9999-0479d5e9328a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Add Business Page Name to M.Me Link

Copy and paste your Facebook Business Page name into the M.Me URL we provided to you above, and whenever a prospect or customer clicks on that Conversion Tool, they will be immediately redirected to Facebook Messenger, and your business will be displayed on the page so they can directly message your business!

# Creating Smart Popups™

Creating Smart Popups™ allows you to target website visitors and current customers in many different areas of your website, sales funnel, and/or software application.

## Naming Popups

{% @arcade/embed flowId="UtxeuSIHXLwvV9E5s8pL" url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/UtxeuSIHXLwvV9E5s8pL>" %}

***

## Enable/Disable Popups

You can enable or disable your Smart Popups at any time. Once enabled, your popup will show on every page where your widget is installed unless you have configured [Display Settings](#display-settings-for-smart-popups-tm) filters. Once disabled, your popup will no longer show anywhere.

{% @arcade/embed flowId="RXB8UgyjvoLBkXPj77p4" url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/RXB8UgyjvoLBkXPj77p4>" %}

### Quick Enable/Disable Option

You can also Enable/Disable Smart Popups™ from the popup list by clicking the "status" icon.

{% @arcade/embed flowId="nQ4lUBl1g1MEtHkPfktY" url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/nQ4lUBl1g1MEtHkPfktY>" %}

***

## Display Settings

In display settings, you can configure WHERE to show your new Smart Popup™ by creating URL conditions such as **"URL Contains: /home"**. These segments and conditions can be grouped together to create powerful targeting and give you complete control over where your popups are shown.

{% @arcade/embed flowId="EhRInKQmx2rEL7uYxY43" url="<https://app.arcade.software/share/EhRInKQmx2rEL7uYxY43>" %}

### Creating Segments

Segments are the top layer for display setting conditions. Without segments, there are no conditions.

Multiple segments can be created for a single popup, and have multiple conditions in each segment. If you create multiple segments, you will need to assign the **AND/OR** function to all of the segments created.

**Meaning, the popup will only show if:**

* **ALL** of the segments are true **(AND)**
* Or **ANY** of the segments are true **(OR)**

<div><figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F7wZb1kiX4anrWAbwvhY6%2FSmart%20Popups%20-%20AND%20Segment.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=66205213-3341-4f53-b143-3e304b98310f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FFpxLgOng5cfqbGIjB2o0%2FSmart%20Popups%20-%20OR%20Segment.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=5f097269-cb8c-4292-8512-81634bfe5e01" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### Adding Conditions to Segments

When creating segments, you are required to add 1 or more conditions to that segment.&#x20;

When adding conditions, you can add as many conditions to a single segment as you need. When you choose the function of the conditions **(AND/OR)**, all of the conditions in that segment will be assigned that function.

**Meaning, the popup will only show if:**

* **ALL** of the conditions in that segment are true **(AND)**
* Or **ANY** of the conditions in that segment are true **(OR)**

<div><figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FBxj4LIE2UzQYxTaU1HmY%2FSmart%20Popups%20-%20AND%20Conditions.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=3e490126-3439-4cc4-a11a-5cdbb0cb35ba" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FnaMEMZPfIRWcIOjUJqAs%2FSmart%20Popups%20-%20OR%20Conditions.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=d619d01c-8eed-4f99-b637-389706e7e39d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### Important Note About Segments and Conditions:

{% hint style="info" %}
You cannot mix and match the **AND/OR** function in between or inside of segments.

* If you choose the **AND** function, that means **ALL** of the segments or conditions must will have the **AND** function.
* If you choose the **OR** function, that means **ANY** of the segments or conditions can individually control whether the popup shows or not.

**Example 1:** *(must ALL be true to show popup)*

Segment 1 <mark style="color:red;">"AND"</mark> Segment 2 <mark style="color:red;">"AND"</mark> Segment 3

**Example 2:** *(ANY can be true to show popup)*

URL Contains - support <mark style="color:red;">"OR"</mark> URL Ends With - .com <mark style="color:red;">"OR"</mark> URL Contains - /blog

## Connect To Highlevel

For many different ChatHQ tools and integrations we require that you integrate your HighLevel account using your agency API Key. If you are not familiar with how to access this API key, or how to use it, below you will find instructions on how to set it all up!

{% hint style="success" %}
Once you add your HighLevel agency API key to **ANY** place in your ChatHQ Portal account, it will activate across the **ENTIRE** Portal account, giving you access to all the tools and integrations that require the API key.
{% endhint %}

### HighLevel Agency API Key

* First, you need access to your HighLevel agency settings. If you do not have access, reach out to your HighLevel agency admin. If you have access, navigate to the agency settings.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FDYmTdiwOzAQxCBTkQxT3%2FXnip2022-08-26_15-15-47.png?alt=media&amp;token=deaff5a1-82ee-43f9-a7ba-e2be8e48295d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Next you want to view your agency settings, and navigate to the "API Keys" tab.

![](https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FXuScMsPpJewpJK670qz0%2FXnip2022-08-26_15-16-31.png?alt=media\&token=25a82b45-c81a-4c53-9acc-0a3735eb34e2)![](https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FaUBhJdALoFWfvWyKfMta%2FXnip2022-08-26_15-17-23.png?alt=media\&token=775aa6fc-2131-478e-bcb4-6399c5eac001)

* Here you will find a list of API keys. These keys will be separated by **"Agency API Keys"** and **"Location API Keys"**. You want to look at the **"Agency API Key"** list.
* Copy the API Key from your agency API Keys list.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FvZmwxjoZIAc4sT31SOp1%2FXnip2022-08-26_15-19-28.png?alt=media&amp;token=4db075d0-729d-4f06-989c-01f5184f1940" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Make sure you DO NOT copy any API keys that say "Old" next to it.**
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FS5rEVIJ2DvJKbesqPKmU%2FXnip2022-08-26_15-20-02.png?alt=media&amp;token=e1fffc13-0e4b-460a-8bfd-2328d2a8e045" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Paste you HighLevel agency API Key in the designated area in the ChatHQ Portal and click "Save"
* You're all set! You will now have access to all tools and integrations that require the HighLevel agency API key! Your ChatHQ Portal areas should now show a green circle next to some text that reads **"Agency API Connected"** like the image below!

### 1. API Key Retrieval

* For users on the $497 HighLevel Pro plan, they should get the agency level API key.
* Users on the $99 or $297 HighLevel plans need to get the location API key.
* The agency level API key can be found by going to **"Agency" ->** **"Settings" -> "API Keys"**.
* For the location level API key, the user should go to the desired location to connect to the ChatHQ account, then to **"Settings"**. In the **"Business Profile"**, the API key will be visible.

### 2. API Key Connection in ChatHQ Portal Account

* Navigate to **"Account" -> "Settings" -> "Integrations" -> "HighLevel"** and click on **"Configure"**. The agency level API key can then be connected. Once connected, a unique agency ID will be provided.

### 3. Multiple Locations Connection

* The agency ID is still provided if one location is connected. Once a location is connected, the agency ID can be retrieved.
* The JavaScript, associated with the agency ID, will only work for that specific HighLevel agency or ChatHQ portal account.

### 4. White Label Widget Builder Setup

* <mark style="color:red;">**Your ChatHQ Portal account needs to be on the top-tier subscription (Agency Plan) to utilize the White Label Widget Builder™.**</mark>
* Once on the Agency Plan, the user can go to **"Integrations" -> "Configure"** in the ChatHQ account to find the JavaScript for the account which is assigned to their agency.
* To get the White Label Widget Builder™, the user needs to copy the JavaScript and navigate back to **"Agency Settings"** in the HighLevel account.
* After pasting the JavaScript in the **"Custom JavaScript"** section <mark style="color:blue;">**(found in "Settings" -> "Company tab")**</mark>, save and refresh the screen for the JavaScript to take effect.

### 5. Adding Custom Menu Links

* The user should go to **"Custom Menu Links"** and add the URL provided in the video description or the knowledge base article.
* The user then needs to add the **"Account ID"** from the ChatHQ account to the URL.
* The user must then assign preferences for the custom menu link (can choose to show in all accounts or select specific ones, allow microphone and camera, etc).

### Custom Menu Link URL

In order to display your White Label Widget Builder™ you will need to create a custom menu link inside of you HighLevel account. You can show this custom menu link to all sub-accounts, or to specific sub-accounts using the settings when creating the custom menu link in HighLevel.

{% hint style="info" %}
Paste this URL in when creating the custom menu link:

\
**<https://editor.chatwidgets.net/>**<mark style="color:red;">\[ChatHQ Portal Account ID]</mark>
{% endhint %}

### Where to find your ChatHQ Portal account ID

Your ChatHQ Portal account ID is found by navigating to your ChatHQ Portal account, then go to **SETTINGS -> ACCOUNT**

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FBmvGCf40ohxiKnvDfWmY%2FXnip2023-07-15_21-17-41.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=69b2d021-880e-4554-b6bf-928922178355" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### 6. Viewing Widgets in the White Label Widget Builder™

* After setup, widgets created in specific locations can be seen in the ChatHQ account.
* These widgets will only be visible in the specific locations where they were created.

## JavaScript API Examples

This section will show you a few ways you can use the Engagement Widget's JavaScript API to go beyond what's possible with the Widget Builder in ChatHQ Portal.

{% hint style="info" %}
While these cover common scenarios, this page is far from an exhaustive list. If you feel like we're missing something feel free to add a Feature Request in our Ideas Board at <https://ideas.chathq.io>&#x20;
{% endhint %}

### Completely hide the Engagement Widget

This call will hide the main Widget panel containing the list of Enagement Tools, the Floating Action Button, and all Welcome Messages

```javascript
window.EngagementWidget.api.hideWidget()
```

### Show the Engagement Widget again after it's been hidden

This call will restore the visibility of the main Widget panel containing the list of Enagement Tools, the Floating Action Button, and Welcome Messages to the state they would be if `hideWidget()` had not been called.

```javascript
window.EngagementWidget.api.showWidget()
```

### Open the main Engagement Widget panel

This call will make the main widget panel, containing the list of Engagement Tools, visible. It will also hide the active Welcome Message, if one is visible.

```javascript
window.EngagementWidget.api.openWidget()
```

### Close the main Engagement Widget panel

This call will make the main widget panel, containing the list of Engagement Tools, invisible. If there is a an Welcome Message it will be made visible. Reasons a Welcome Message may be active include:

* The Welcome Message is configured to show on page load and it hasn't been dismissed by the visitor
* The Welcome Message is configured to show on scroll, the visitor scrolled the configured percentage down the page and has not dimissed the Welcome Message
* The Welcome Message is configured to show after a specified number of seconds on the page that have elapsed and the visitor has not dimissed the Welcome Message
* The Welcome Message is configured to show when an element enters the viewport of the browser, the element is currently in view, and the visitor has not dimissed the Welcome Message

```javascript
window.EngagementWidget.api.closeWidget()
```

### Toggle visibility of the main Engagement Widget panel

This call will close the main Engagement Widget panel if it is currently open (equivalent to calling `closeWidget()`), and will open it if it is closed (equivalent to calling `openWidget()).`

```javascript
window.EngagementWidget.api.toggleWidget()
```

### Hide all Welcome Messages

This call will make Welcome Messages invisible, regardless of their configured triggering behaviors.

```javascript
window.EngagementWidget.api.hideWelcomeMessages()
```

### Show Welcome Messages visible again

This call will make Welcome Messages visible again after a previous call to `hideWelcomeMessages()`. Note that Welcome Messages triggering (e.g: scrolling, or time on page) configuration will still determine which Welcome Message is actually diaplayed

```javascript
window.EngagementWidget.api.showWelcomeMessages()
```

# 2. GA4 Custom Events & Definitions

## Custom Events in GA4 Admin Dashboard

Navigate to your Admin panel in Google Analytics, select the account and property you want to use when collecting widget events and data, then click the **"EVENTS"** tab.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F4kktIBhpIzoc6JDPimFF%2FXnip2023-04-24_14-47-38.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=4f616c3b-c667-4f6d-aa05-55bead862dc0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In the **"EVENTS"** tab you will see all current custom events that are being recorded in your GA4 property. You will also be able to create new custom events, which is what we are going to do to collect data from the Engagement Widgets. Click the **"Create Event"** button as shown in the screenshot below to start creating new GA4 events.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FCRGZcwLu8EKlGPzFGiaK%2FXnip2023-04-24_14-48-21.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=0c8cd7c5-fcc2-4b0f-8703-6ec754fa117e" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Follow the configuration instructions below to setup your custom Engagement Widget GA4 events:**
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FiYJ70RrTJ9NDHJ6xz0Ge%2FXnip2023-04-21_12-28-53.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=490cf0a7-10f4-43a8-ac9c-accb10487fd2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Custom Event Name -** We name the events the same as the Event Values, but you can name the events however you want.

**Matching conditions -** Create a custom event when another event matches ALL of the following conditions:

1. **Parameter:** event\_name
2. **Operator:** equals
3. **Event Values: (copy exactly as seen below)**
   * widget\_opened
   * widget\_closed
   * tool\_opened
   * tool\_closed
   * welcome\_message\_clicked
   * welcome\_message\_closed
   * all\_welcome\_messages\_closed

**Parameter configuration -** Copy parameters from the source event (make sure this is checked)

## GA4 Custom Definitions for Custom Events

Next you will need to create **"Custom Definitions"** for your newly created GA4 custom events. In your Admin panel in Google Analytics, make sure you're in the same account and property you just created your custom events in, and then select the **"Custom Definitions"** tab.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FILsc9YCdk8N7C9gegQZP%2FXnip2023-04-24_14-53-53.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=68888afe-227f-4cfc-b01e-8393b3d404d0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In this tab, you will see all current custom definitions for custom events that are being recorded in your GA4 property. You will also be able to create new custom definitions, which help GA4 identify and categorize your custom events by adding additional data to each event. Click the **"Create Custom Definition"** button as shown in the screenshot below to start creating new custom definitions for GA4 events.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F4NF2bOTKbeYZjZ3nEA01%2FXnip2023-04-24_14-54-31.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=5ed76cba-941b-4f3c-94bd-7b27a6649927" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Follow the configuration instructions below to setup your custom definitions for your GA4 events:**
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FFDECiy9PwWdrM9E2A1b0%2FXnip2023-04-21_12-29-18.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=23582e77-3926-4dc6-a01d-7114338ee01e" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# 3. Tags & Triggers in Google Tag Manager

## GTM Tags for Custom GA4 Events

**Name your tag according to the widget event you are setting up**

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FPXnZb95fUHcAZCgoURlO%2FXnip2023-04-24_15-02-54.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=4e19d5aa-3c52-4b30-982b-b6b2a5cbadc1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Select the “Google Analytics GA4 Event” tag**

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FgHCkuHEEA33EEQobKgeS%2FXnip2023-04-24_15-00-53.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=f68848e6-c9e8-4045-ad0c-bc97a7cc0acb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Configuration tag set to “GA4”**

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FhjaiFm3plnsKiI7oBmPG%2FXnip2023-04-24_15-03-37.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=b5a52e5a-7300-4a1d-afe3-2a850e0e7616" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Add "Event Name":** This should match your Event Name from above when you created the GA4 event (Example - widget\_opened)

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F5uZMw2ZSsr4oMW65eJie%2FXnip2023-04-24_15-03-49.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=4ac30ca5-a23c-41ad-8d90-cbfd73bf3956" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## **GTM Custom Event Triggers**

These custom event triggers will fire whenever ChatHQ sends event data into your GTM, which will then send the data from your GTM to your GA4.

**Follow the instructions and screenshots below to setup "Custom Event" triggers and apply them to your newly created tags:**

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FMRfANrS39ehVISgr4zHR%2FXnip2023-04-24_12-50-59.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=0b91db47-01b4-4e36-a1db-0bac470c5589" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When creating a trigger for your GTM tag, select "Custom Event"

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FbVN4UuQYS4QJ5qeYXeDM%2FXnip2023-04-24_12-51-51.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=6bf5b39c-0884-4b3f-a354-c6dd03014fcc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You will need to configure your new trigger to match the Engagement Widget GA4 event your are connecting it to. For example, in the screenshot below you will see the "event name" perfectly matches the widget event associated with this trigger. You will repeate this process for every widget event you add to GA4 so that GTM knows to trigger the event when this data is passed into the [Data Layer](#data-layer).

{% hint style="info" %}
Make sure you select the option **"All Custom Events"** when selecting when this trigger should fire!
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2Ff8rZValg9ah5JDK6qXsq%2FXnip2023-04-24_12-52-07.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=fe8f982d-8ead-46ee-a563-13d39b1f5793" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When you have setup your Custom Event trigger properly, it should resemble the screenshot below.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**VERY IMPORTANT:** Remember, you will need a **NEW TRIGGER** for **EVERY** widget event you setup.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FOc9KTTNLqUk5LX5QlsnR%2FXnip2023-04-24_12-51-13.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=107de8e2-3e63-4af5-b751-495ac209cfad" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When you are finished creating all your custom event triggers, you should have a trigger for all the follow widget events:

* widget\_opened
* widget\_closed
* tool\_opened
* tool\_closed
* welcome\_message\_clicked
* welcome\_message\_closed
* all\_welcome\_messages\_closed

# 4. Using the Data Layer to Define Custom Variables

## What is the Data Layer?

Learn more about the Data Layer and how to access/use the information found in the Data Layer here: <https://developers.google.com/tag-platform/tag-manager/web/datalayer>

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F6uVOtf15fpO1cxMQ5sS4%2FXnip2023-04-27_11-46-03.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=295c3b64-65ed-4e49-be3f-c50c697b0502" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Accessing the Data Layer

In order to access the data layer and see what data is being sent from the widget into your GTM, you need to run your website in "Debug" mode using the Google Tag Assistant Chrome Extension.

**Download the Chrome Extension here:** <https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tag-assistant-companion/jmekfmbnaedfebfnmakmokmlfpblbfdm?hl=en>

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FNnqyVVyfXJUeKY0TVdmo%2FXnip2023-04-27_11-47-04.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=f75eedc9-2768-4ffe-996f-85e58f6cca02" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Debug With Tag Assistant Extension

Next, you will need to open your newly added Chrome extension and add the domain you have your Engagement Widget installed on.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you do not have your Google Tag Manager script installed on this website, the debugging process will not work.
{% endhint %}

Once you add your domain, you will see a screen that looks like the screenshot below, and you will start to see all actions on your website stream into the Tag Assistant.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Make sure you select the correct GTM account ID at the top of the screen so you see the correct events flowing into your Tag Assistant.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F8pWlwUgca8qPLsBnxna5%2FXnip2023-04-27_11-56-11.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=4383c7c2-a904-4530-a8f0-5bee3fea2b9b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can learn more about using the Tag Assistant by reading Google's help docs here: <https://support.google.com/tagassistant/answer/10039345>

### Send Widget Events To Tag Assistant

Now that you have your Tag Assistant setup and you have selected the correct GTM account, any actions you perform on your website will start showing up in the **"Summary"** sidebar in Tag Assistant, including the widget events that ChatHQ sends when you interact with a ChatHQ Engagement Widget™.

The next step is to interact with the widget installed on the website that is being tracked by your Tag Assistant. By performing any of the following events, you will see the events and data show up in your Tag Assistant.

### **7 Widget Events Tracked:**

1. <mark style="color:blue;">widget\_opened</mark>
2. <mark style="color:blue;">widget\_closed</mark>
3. <mark style="color:blue;">tool\_opened</mark>
4. <mark style="color:blue;">tool\_closed</mark>
5. <mark style="color:blue;">welcome\_message\_clicked</mark>
6. <mark style="color:blue;">welcome\_message\_closed</mark>
7. <mark style="color:blue;">all\_welcome\_messages\_closed</mark>

## Identifying Data to Use

Now that we have widget events showing up in the Tag Assistant, you will need to inspect the data layer to see exactly what data can be used when setting up custom Tags in your Google Tag Manager.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FMoeMcDfAHzzpqDmsgqrM%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-05-43.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=62c34b9a-99c7-4b1a-9ed4-e89965d5e5bf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Example of Widget Event Data

Below you will see an actual JSON payload of the widget event data passed into the Google Tag Assistant. You will see many different data points that you can capture and use in your analytics for various use cases.

{% code lineNumbers="true" %}

```json5
{
  event: "tool_opened",
  gtm: {uniqueEventId: 11, start: 1682610911572},
  app: "engagement-widget",
  account: "CHATHQ ACCOUNT ID",
  widget: "YOUR WIDGET ID",
  token: "BROWSER SESSION TOKEN",
  location: {
    ancestorOrigins: {},
    href: "https://www.chathq.io/?gtm_debug=1682610910815",
    origin: "https://www.chathq.io",
    protocol: "https:",
    host: "www.chathq.io",
    hostname: "www.chathq.io",
    port: "",
    pathname: "/",
    search: {gtm_debug: "1682610910815"},
    hash: {},
    title: "Helping HighLevel agencies increase customer engagement a" +
           "nd conversions | ChatHQ"
  },
  ua: "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/53" +
      "7.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/112.0.0.0 Safari/537.36",
  contact: {
    customer_id: "YOUR CUSTOMER'S HIGHLEVEL ID
    (Only available if you have Sticky Contact turned on)",
    country: "US",
    location_id: "YOUR CUSTOMER'S HIGHLEVEL LOCATION ID
    (Only available if you have Sticky Contact turned on)"
  },
  ts: 1682611379110,
  el: "tool_item",
  tool: "tool-reviews",
  toolId: "UYRLaZjNJz4Qhzv6lnD9c"
}
```

{% endcode %}

{% hint style="info" %}
This specific event occurred when I **"Opened a Tool"** inside my Engagement Widget. You will notice at the bottom of this JSON payload, there is a **"tool"** and **"toolId"** field.

You can actually identify which tool was opened so you know exactly what actions your website visitors took before they converted!
{% endhint %}

For the next steps, I am going to identify the data variables I want to pass into my widget analytics by looking at the data layer above. I will be setting up analytics for the following data points:

* <mark style="color:red;">account: "CHATHQ ACCOUNT ID"</mark>
* <mark style="color:red;">widget: "YOUR WIDGET ID"</mark>
* <mark style="color:red;">token: "BROWSER SESSION TOKEN"</mark>
* <mark style="color:red;">el: "tool\_item"</mark>
* <mark style="color:red;">tool: "tool-reviews"</mark>
* <mark style="color:red;">toolId: "UYRLaZjNJz4Qhzv6lnD9c"</mark>

# 5. Creating Custom GTM Variables

## Custom GTM Variables

To actually get this data into your GTM and then into your GA4 account, you will need to create what's called "Custom Variables" in GTM. I will show you how to do this, and I will link to Google's help documentation if you need further assistance. By following my exact directions, you will be able to create custom variables for any and all widget event data you want to track.

{% hint style="info" %}
**IMPORTANT:** Every widget event sends potentially different data. For example, if the widget event is "widget opened" you will not see specific data for a "tool". So to get every single data point you will need to test all 7 widget events.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**IMPORTANT:** ChatHQ may also add more widget events in the future, or add more data points to existing widget events. Please keep that in mind.

<mark style="color:red;">You can also request specific data and we will do our best to add it to the JSON payload.</mark>
{% endhint %}

### Creating Custom Variables

* First, you need to open the GTM Tag that you want to add custom variables to. For this example I am using the "Tool Opened" widget event tag in my GTM. When adding custom variables, you will need to identify if the variable falls under **"EVENT PARAMETERS"** or **"USER PROPERTIES".**

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FSX4M9AeFz0UEYvdgP5wz%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-53-38.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=3708e21b-cff4-4ec1-b3e8-7c79a536b8fb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Event Parameters** consist of data that refers to the widget such as:

* <mark style="color:blue;">Widget ID</mark>
* <mark style="color:blue;">Tool Name</mark>
* <mark style="color:blue;">Tool ID</mark>
* <mark style="color:blue;">Welcome Message ID</mark>
* <mark style="color:blue;">Ect</mark>

**User Properties** consist of data that refers to users and accounts such as:

* <mark style="color:blue;">User ID</mark>

* <mark style="color:blue;">Account ID</mark>

* <mark style="color:blue;">Location ID</mark>

* <mark style="color:blue;">Contact</mark>

* <mark style="color:blue;">Token</mark>

* <mark style="color:blue;">Ect</mark>

* Depending on the type of variable you're adding, you want to **"add a new row"** to that specific section as shown in the screenshot below. In this example, I am adding a custom variable in **"EVENT PARAMETERS"** for the data set **"toolId"**.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FwZ0DpE8o21lgsLeiOBHd%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-55-17.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=4371dce3-05b9-48bd-a70d-ec0428cc39f4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Next, you will need to click the small icon on the far right of the input field that looks like a Leggo with a + sign in the middle of it.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F99sSo2Yl2AtbOGW80AVw%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-55-44.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=49656778-0d77-4005-9192-b3e3d5dac7c5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Once you click that button, you will see a new screen. On this new screen, you will see a list of GTM variables. This is where you will see all the custom variables you've created moving forward. **To create a new custom variable, click the "+" sign in the top right corner of the screen.**

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FIfOHUmbQSJEQo6nwLQPT%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-56-03.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=1aead8bd-274f-4da7-8c1d-539097e97568" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2Fh5xj34CAxzgVavOjdZBz%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-56-29.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=20331507-0557-4c3e-8009-228d4bc88630" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Next, you need to select the category of variable you are adding to your GTM. You will need to select the **"DATA LAYER VARIABLE"** as shown in the screenshot below:

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F4ETegNDwujjE4EiG29t2%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-56-48.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=9f818cf6-13fe-42a9-bd32-472983e21cda" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FoeFa6LR3zKegC7mwMsxr%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-57-06.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=96815cd6-d670-4869-8cae-8410c07a8dd1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* After selecting the **"DATA LAYER VARIABLE"** category, you will only need to configure 2 fields to finish setting up your custom variable:
  * <mark style="color:blue;">**Variable Name**</mark>
  * <mark style="color:blue;">**Data Layer Variable Name**</mark>

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F0eJBQQ37ku1N2xVswfGG%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-58-01.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=4d119e25-f33c-4f46-99ee-a148a108bb6b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* After you save your new customer variable, you will now see it show up in the previously empty row you created earlier in this process. The last step is to simply add a **"PARAMETER NAME"** that will show up in your GA4 analytic dashboards and reports. You will notice in the image below that the **"PARAMETER NAME"** on the left looks clean and has no special characters like {}, and the **"VALUE NAME**" on the right is enclosed in curly brackets {} because that is the custom variable you just created in the previous steps.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FZKHdsPYQp0f2Zliots2d%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-58-38.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=a7b45ab4-844c-4a01-a6b9-a01fd1529f63" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2F8CajoQXHBvOtNIjFbHKB%2FXnip2023-04-27_12-59-39.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=a1f54b0c-32a4-460b-8849-5ab2b9295205" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Submit Changes

Lastly, you need to submit the changes made to your GTM and you're all done!

{% hint style="warning" %}
If you try to test before you submit your changes, you **WILL NOT** see the correct data
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FSbIy2YuKqrzvZ6RD74qG%2FXnip2023-04-27_13-01-00.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=cf018910-41c4-4208-8c4b-29942881827f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## **Adding More Event Parameters**

<mark style="color:blue;">Event Parameters</mark> consist of the widget data that is collected when events are triggered in the widget. ChatHQ surfaces many different widget data points that are available to you to track and quantify. This information is found in the [<mark style="color:blue;">Data Layer</mark>](#data-layer).

* **Parameter Name -** <mark style="color:red;">widget</mark> | **Value -** <mark style="color:red;">{{Widget ID}}</mark>
  * This parameter will show up in your Google Analytics so you can identify which events came from which widget using the Widget ID, and set up filters and reports around it.
* **Parameter Name -** <mark style="color:red;">element</mark> | **Value -** <mark style="color:red;">{{UI Element}}</mark>
  * This parameter will show up in your Google Analytics so you can identify the name of the UI Element that triggered the widget event, and set up filters and reports around it.

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FdnVfzu5lvPSWAgFZUqMQ%2FXnip2023-04-24_12-50-05.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=715466f1-f8ad-47f3-affa-9780645b837c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## **Adding More User Properties**

<mark style="color:blue;">User Properties</mark> consist of the user data that is collected when events are triggered in the widget. ChatHQ surfaces many different user data points that are available to you to track and quantify. This information is found in the [<mark style="color:blue;">Data Layer</mark>](#data-layer).

* **Property Name -** <mark style="color:red;">contactId</mark> | **Value -** <mark style="color:red;">{{Contact ID}}</mark>
  * This user property will show up in your Google Analytics so you can identify the Contact ID of the individual using your widget, and set up filters and reports around it. This works GREAT when using your widget in your HighLevel for support!
* **Parameter Name -** <mark style="color:red;">locationId</mark> | **Value -** <mark style="color:red;">{{Location ID}}</mark>
  * This user property will show up in your Google Analytics so you can identify the Location ID of the individual using your widget, and set up filters and reports around it. This works GREAT when using your widget in your HighLevel for support!

<figure><img src="https://2949826416-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-Mh0SIdnTfBpdN11l3wk%2Fuploads%2FIhjvrvr4QMegvA0KA8Kk%2FXnip2023-04-24_12-50-35.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=2941f331-a124-48b4-ae4b-720a908d5509" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# 6. Testing Widget Analytics

Test widget events by going to the website where the widget is installed, and test different events while watching Google Analytics in “Realtime” mode. You should see events show up in the "events" section of your realtime analytics dashboard, just like in the screenshot.

# CSS and JavaScript

# Floating Action Button (FAB)

Change the behavior of the "pulse" animation on the Engagement Widget trigger button

{% hint style="success" %}
When adding the widget inside HighLevel, copy the CSS code only (*everything except the \<style> and \</style> tags*) and paste it inside your agency's *Custom CSS* section instead of the *Custom Javascript* section.
{% endhint %}

### Disable FAB Animation

Add the following style tag right after the widget installation script to completely disable the "pulse" animation on the Engagement Widget's trigger button:

```html
<style>
#engagement-widget-fab-wrapper::before {
    animation: unset;
}
</style>
```

### Set Number of FAB "Pulses"

Add the following style tag right after the widget installation script to keep the animation but limit it to only a number of "pulses" (replace the number 3 below with your desired number of "pulses"):

```html
<style>
#engagement-widget-fab-wrapper::before {
    animation-iteration-count: 3;
}
</style>
```
